Constitution and By-Laws

Preamble

    We, heirs of rich heritage of Kerala,India,inorder to maintain the great values of that heritage and establish a forum for the contribution of the unique culture and tradition of the people from kerala to the enrichment of the Preston society,do ordain and dedicate this constitution for the Malayalee Association of Preston

ArticleI:-This organization shall be called "The Malayalee Association Preston" and is hereunder referred to as the "Association"

ArticleII:-Objectives
The objectives of this association are:-

  • To provide a forum of its members to meet and exchange views;
  • To foster friendship and understanding among its members;
  • To provide oppertunity for literacy,cultural and entertainment activities;
  • To provide oppertunity for members-men,women and children-to participiate and take leadership in all activities of the Association;
  • To cooperate with other organization in programs of common interest

Article III :- Membership,Privileges and Dues
A-Members anyone belonging to any of the following catagories is eligible for membership in the Association

1)Keralites
2)Malayalam speaking people
3)Descendants of Keralites
4)Persons related to keralites and their descendants

Only Members who are 18 years of age or older and residents of Preston,Chorley,London,Longride Penwortham are eligible to vote and hold any elected office of the asssociation.
The official office shall be in Preston
The membership year of the association shall be from March 1 to February 28 of the next year

Article IV :-Administration
The association shall be administrated and managed by an executive committie comprising:
A. All officers of the association described in Article IV Sec.2.The association shall have fifteen elected officers as listed below:
a. President
b. Vice President
c. Secretary
d. Jt.secretary
e. Treasurer
f. and Ten executive committee members
    All the executive committee members shall be elected in the Anual General Body meeting in the democratic system

    The team of office of the elected oifficers shall be from 1st March to 28 February of the next year.All association documents shall be transferred to the new executive committee not later than March of the following year

    No Members of the association shall serve for more than two consecutive full terms in the same position,except for those in the long range planning committe.Main office bearers should have completed atleast one year in the executive committee

    The term of any elected members shall automatically expire if that person cease to be a resident of the above said area.

If,in the judjment of the executive committee,an executive committee member fails to discharge his/her duties or act to the detriment of the association,that member be removed from the position by a two third majority decision in a duly called executive meeting.The aggrieved party,however may appeal the decision to the general body

    Should a vacancy arise in any position of the executive committee shall be filled by election at a duly called general body meeting of the association
